Bewegungsstörung

Movement disorders comprise different diseaes entities such as dystonia, Parkinson´s disease, restless legs syndrom and spasticity (e.g. following stroke or multiple sclerosis). Frequently, simple and basic adjustment of medical therapy is sufficient to achieve signficant improvements, e.g. dopaminergic substition in restless leg syndrome or in levodopa-responsive dystonia, but for instance is more complicated in Parkinson´s disease and may include medical combination therapies, pump therapies (apomorphine or DuoDopa®) in more advanced stages.

In addition to these established therapeutic options new avenues have been opened in the last 10-15 years, such as treatment with botulinumtoxin or in selected cases deep brain stimulation (brain pacemaker).

Deep brain stimulation (wiki-link) is both clinically and scientifically performed in close cooperation with the Clinic of Stereotactic Neurosurgery at the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität in Magdeburg. Potential referals and cooperations also exist for Berlin-Buch.
